General Wargaming

Special Ops is a specialized periodical that has long served as a cornerstone for wargaming enthusiasts. The magazine is designed not only to deliver detailed scenarios for games like Advanced Squad Leader (ASL) and the ASL Starter Kit (ASLSK) but also to provide in-depth articles on tactical insights, historical analysis, and design philosophy that enrich the overall gaming experience. Each issue acts as both a commentary and an extension of MMP's broader product line, delivering content that ranges from game design notes to fully playable mini-games. 

Renowned contributors—names like Carl Fung, Ric Van Dyke, Ken Dunn, and Perry Cocke, among others—have lent their expertise to dissect historical battles and innovative game mechanics. The more recent Special Ops Issue #12 (2024) continues this tradition of innovation and depth. This edition contains eight articles, four ASL scenarios, two ASLSK scenarios, and even a mini HASL map. Notably, it incorporates a quick-playing game titled *Warriors of England*, offering a compact yet engaging simulation of the Wars of the Roses. Supplementary historical articles provide context and background, enriching the game’s narrative while challenging players to consider alternative strategies and tactical insights. This blend of direct gameplay content with historical analysis gives readers a holistic appreciation for both the craft of game design and the depth of military history.
